A man alleged to have robbed a National Bank branch in Auckland's Queen St yesterday has appeared briefly in court.
Peter John Regan, 48, appeared in Auckland District Court this afternoon facing one charge of robbery.
Regan was heard to mutter "I'm pleading guilty, your honour" at his appearance today but no plea was officially entered.
He was remanded in custody by consent and will reappear on June 22.
Regan was drunk when arrested this morning at a downtown Auckland address, police said.
He was arrested after police released security camera footage of a man wearing a beanie - but no disguise on his face - demanding money from the National Bank teller about 2.35pm yesterday.
The teller handed over the cash to the robber, who did not present a weapon nor threaten to use one, police said.
The offender left with an undisclosed sum of money and headed up Queen St, where he was lost in the crowd.
