Two Romanian men have appeared in court charged with attempting to access a Kapiti Coast ATM machine's computer.
The men were denied bail when they appeared in front of a Justice of the Peace in the Wellington District Court this morning.
They were granted interim name suppression until their next appearance on Monday.
Police said they would oppose continuing name suppression then.
The pair entered no plea today.
The men were arrested after allegedly preparing to access an ATM at Coastlands shopping Mall in Paraparaumu.
Detective Senior Sergeant John van den Heuvel from Wellington police said the full extent of the men's alleged criminal activity in New Zealand was yet to be fully determined and the possibility of other people being involved had not been ruled out.
"Police therefore continue to remind the public to cover the keypad with their hand when entering a PIN at ATM's and to immediately report any concerns to the bank or local police,'' he said.
"Anyone seen acting suspiciously around an ATM should be immediately reported to police.''
On Tuesday, a 28-year-old Albanian man was intercepted at Wellington Airport carrying ATM skimming equipment and was refused entry into the country after being questioned by police, Customs and Immigration New Zealand.
