Police are investigating alleged assaults by bouncers in Nelson, including on tourists.
They are not naming the establishment concerned but say it is a licensed premises.
"Police have received at least three separate complaints about the excessive use of force used by the door security staff," said Nelson Bays area commander Inspector Brian McGurk.
"Some of the complainants have been tourists visiting Nelson and have received significant injuries requiring medical attention."
Victims' injuries included broken noses and severe bruising from incidents this week and early last month, he said.
