A New Zealand soccer international was taken to hospital in England after it is believed his drink was spiked by rival fans at a nightclub.
David Mulligan - capped eight times by the All Whites - is believed to have collapsed after the mystery drug was slipped into his drink.
The 25-year-old defender was admitted to the Doncaster Royal Infirmary in South Yorkshire after collapsing during a night out with fellow players in the early hours of Wednesday (UK time).
He was released after treatment but the doctor at his club, Doncaster Rovers, sent him back because he was still suffering side-effects.
Tests have been taken to see what caused his collapse. It is thought that fans of Rovers' rivals Sheffield Wednesday spiked his drink.
A source close to Mulligan told the Sun newspaper: "Dave is convinced someone spiked his drink. He was out at a club with a few of the boys when he became ill.
"The effects on him were similar to those you would imagine if you were given a powerful drug."
The English Football Association has been told of the incident.
