A soggy day might have reduced the numbers at Carterton's Daffodil Festival but there were plenty of visitors as well as locals who braved the weather yesterday to pick daffodils at Middlerun, sample the stalls in Carterton or ride up with the Daffodil Express.
Middlerun in Gladstone enjoyed a steady run of pickers, including two tours buses, but the Carterton Scouts, already busy with a sausage sizzle fundraiser, also helped with freeing a few bogged-down cars.
The Daffodil Express was running nearly an hour late but was greeted by a crowd of rail enthusiasts and the curious.
Kate Briscoe, 10, who travelled on the express from Wellington, said her first steam train ride was fun but "slow" and she was looking forward to daffodil picking.
