The words 'crouch, touch, pause and engage' may have been ringing in All Black Ali Williams' ears yesterday.
Hours after helping the Blues to Super Rugby victory over the Rebels, the giant lock popped the question to long-time girlfriend Casey Green.
The loved-up couple became engaged yesterday morning after six years of what Green calls being "happy playing boyfriend and girlfriend".
Friends and family celebrated last night at the Herne Bay home of Williams' agent Andy Haden.
Friends said Casey was "ecstatic" about the proposal - and sporting a large sapphire and diamond ring similar in style to Kate Middleton's.
Ali had been expected to make his move at Casey's 30th birthday two weeks ago.
Unfortunately, the couple's time together in the coming months will be limited by Ali's rugby commitments. Fit again, he's proving his worth to a resurgent Blues side and will expect to be in the frame for the All Blacks World Cup squad.
It's a lifestyle Green is all-too familiar with. For much of her time with Williams, he has been away with the Blues, Crusaders and All Blacks.
"I am quite used to being the girlfriend of an All Black and Ali being away on games," she said this year.
"You just have to look at the positives."
Green, who owns dancing studio Pole Fitness New Zealand, said she got lonely when Ali was away - but the positive was the "honeymoon period" when he returned.
