KEY POINTS:
It's the rarest Alfa Romeo ever - and only 11 examples are planned for production.
The sleek special edition Spider Mille Miglia is being built to mark the company's success in the famous Italian road race, which Alfa won 11 times between 1927 and 1957 - hence the limited production run.
It's based on the range-topping Spider and is fitted with its 190kW 3.2-litre V6 engine. Each example has a unique silver plate mounted between the two seats, which recounts one of the 11 victories.
There's also an exclusive Rosso 8C red paint job, a Quadrifoglio (four-leaf clover in Italian) logo on the front flank and red stitching on the black leather seats. Prices for the model are yet to be announced.
The car was unveiled at the recent Mille Miglia 2008, which took the form of a 1600km commemorative parade using historic vehicles.
The competitive version of the race was banned in 1957, after a crash killed a driver, co-driver and 11 spectators in an Italian village.
