Upper Hutt Cosompolitan Club representative Stephen Alderson took out the 2006 Chartered Clubs of New Zealand snooker singles championship in Masterton over the weekend.
He beat Daniel Sinclair, of Tauranga Citzens Club, 3-0 in what was a surprisingly one-sided final.
Event organiser Ross Fafeita ? twice a winner of the title ? said both finalists showed good form through the early rounds of the competition, especially the 21-year-old Sinclair who made short of local player Peter Wilson ? returning to competition play after a 12-year layoff ? by 3-0 and then beat second seed Jack Efaraimo by a decisive 3-1.
Alderson, on the other hand, had a bigger battle on his hands to make the decider. He beat Rob Elvin 3-1 before being taken to the deciding frame by Willie Mathews, Alderson winning 3-2.
Sadly for the big crowd which gathered for finals day Sinclair struggled to find anything like his best form against Alderson and the latter won the national title in commanding style.
