KEY POINTS:
The airport that is the gateway to Mt Everest has been renamed after Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay.
"The Lukla airport will now be known as the Tenzing-Hillary Airport," said Nepal's Tourism Minister, Prithvi Subba Gurung.
Lukla airport was set up with help from Sir Ed's Himalayan Trust in 1964. A part of the trail to reach the Everest Base Camp will also be named the Tenzing-Hillary route.
Sir Ed, who died last month, and Tenzing Norgay were the first men to climb Everest.
