KEY POINTS:
Auckland Airport has reopened after thick fog disrupted domestic flights this morning.
Staff are working on accommodating passengers on flights this afternoon.
A spokeswoman said a total of 32 incoming and outgoing domestic flights had been affected by the fog, which started clearing just before 10am.
She said flights were delayed as airlines worked through the backlog and urged travellers to contact their airlines before setting off for the airport.
Air New Zealand spokeswoman Tracey Palmer earlier said 28 flights out of Auckland had so far been cancelled.
She could not say how many passengers had been affected.
"It's looking marginally better. Hopefully we get people moving as soon as possible," Ms Palmer said.
Auckland Airport listed delayed and cancelled flights on its website.
Newstalk ZB reported that at least one flight from Wellington turned back just before landing.
Qantas have also had three domestic flights delayed.
Spokeswoman Melissa Thomson said she could not say how many passengers had been affected but they would be put on the next available flight.
She said the fog was lifting.
