Plans for a rail link to Auckland Airport have been quashed by the regional council.
The lobby group Campaign for Better Transport suggested the idea in June.
It said a link would give a journey time of about 30 minutes and would cost around $460 million.
But Auckland Regional Council officers said a single mode of transport to the airport was not feasible in the short to medium term.
"In the longer term there are a range of options for dealing with expansions to the rail network," their report said.
"However, all such options ... need to be undertaken in the context of the development of the whole rail system."
