A Wairarapa forestry worker felled by a tree branch at a pine plantation near Tinui was airlifted to Wellington Hospital.
Life Flight crewman Logan Taylor said the Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called to the site of the accident about 12.30pm on Monday. Paramedics had to walk to the injured man after the aircraft was unable to be landed any closer due to rough terrain.
"It was tough access but the trees had been cut down and the patient's co-workers were a big help carrying him out once he was stabilised."
Mr Taylor said the man and a paramedic were winched back into the helicopter.
The man had been struck on the head by a falling branch, Mr Taylor said, and was flown with moderate injuries to Wellington Hospital.
