An Auckland man was waiting yesterday to find out whether he had suffered permanent eye damage after being shot with an airgun on Saturday night.
The 18-year-old was the front seat passenger in a car waiting at traffic lights in St Andrews Rd, Epsom, said Detective Sergeant Mark Osbourne.
There was a verbal exchange with the occupants of a second car waiting at the lights and a shot was fired from the back seat of the other vehicle.
Mr Osbourne said both cars were carrying youths aged around 18 who were thought to be students or former students of the same school and known to one another.
Mr Osbourne said the airgun pellet entered the man's face just below his left eye.
