A teenager has indicated he plans to defend a charge of maiming a man who was shot in the face with a pellet gun in a central Christchurch street.
Daniel Michael Speer accused of injuring the man with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, was sent for a post-committal conference on December 3 following a hearing at Christchurch District Court today .
Speer, 19, is on bail with conditions.
The victim was shot in the face at point-blank range in the early hours of August 29, in Hereford Street, central Christchurch, in what police believed was a random attack.
Surgery was attempted to remove the pellet from the man's eye, but it was not successful and the pellet remains lodged there.
He may yet lose his eye.
