KEY POINTS:
An Air New Zealand plane having problems with its landing gear sparked an emergency alert at Tauranga Airport this afternoon.
Firefighters, ambulance and police descended on the airport after the Eagle Air Beech 1900D reported that an indicator light for the rear wheels was not working.
The plane, with 15 people onboard, had been scheduled to land on the flight from Auckland about 1pm, but the landing was delayed as the aircraft circled in front of the control tower to check the wheels were down.
The plane landed without incident 20 minutes later after the captain had also come into the cabin to check the wheels out a window.
Roads around the airport were cordoned off as a precaution during the incident.
