A power surge forced an Air New Zealand plane with 282 people on board to shut down one of its engines before landing at Auckland International Airport yesterday.
An Air New Zealand spokeswoman said the aircraft was nearing the end of its Sydney to Auckland flight when it experienced the surge in one of its four engines.
Pilots followed proceedure by shutting down the engine and the plane landed as scheduled at 8.45pm, she said.
She said staff had given no reports of flames coming from the engine.
"No local standby was required, the aircraft landed without incident and is being inspected by engineers."
