KEY POINTS:
An Air New Zealand Boeing 737 aircraft heading to Queenstown from Auckland made a safe emergency landing on one engine in Christchurch this afternoon.
The plane, with 73 passengers aboard, diverted to Christchurch and landed without incident about 2.50pm.
An Air New Zealand spokeswoman told NZPA the crew shut down one engine as a precaution after a warning light came on and diverted to Christchurch. Engineers would now inspect the engine.
The incident sparked a full emergency services turn-out at Christchurch International Airport.
Queenstown-bound passengers would be delayed until the aircraft was cleared, the spokeswoman said.
