The pilots of an Air New Zealand flight from Wellington to Sydney had to turn back this morning due to an "engineering issue''.
The Airbus A320 had been due to arrive in Sydney at 8.20am local time after leaving Wellington at 6.40am today.
But the pilots on flight NZ845 elected to return to New Zealand "due to an engineering issue'', an Air New Zealand spokeswoman said.
The plane did not return to Wellington and was diverted to Auckland, where the airline has its technical operations base.
"The aircraft was inspected by engineers, and continued its journey to Sydney shortly after 10am,'' the spokeswoman said.
