A young boy battling cancer has joined an air force helicopter squadron for a special flight.
Aaron Rowe of Marton had always dreamed of taking such a flight and his wish was granted by the RNZAF.
The 9-year-old has a rare cancer called synovial sarcoma, which affects only a handful of people in New Zealand, and treatment has not been successful.
He and his family have been supported by the Child Cancer Foundation since he was diagnosed in 2012.
When members of 3 Squadron, who operate the Iroquois helicopters, heard Aaron was keen to fly, they arranged a special visit to RNZAF Base Ohakea for him, his family and friends.
