Air fares on the rise

The cost of trans-Tasman air travel and some domestic fares is increasing.

Both Air New Zealand and Qantas say they are raising their trans-Tasman ticket prices, in response to large increases in fuel costs and the falling New Zealand dollar.

A fare which previously cost $499 will go up by an average of $50.

Meanwhile, Air New Zealand's domestic air fares have also risen by as much as 7%.

Ansett New Zealand is yet to announce any rise to its fares.
