Air alert ends safely at Auckland

An Air NZ Boeing 767 has landed safely at Auckland Airport despite a damaged nose wheel.

At least five fire trucks were at the scene as the plane prepared to come in.

It is understood the nose wheel was damaged on take-off in Hong Kong and the pilot was circling the airport while experts assessed the situation.

Flight NZ86 was due to land at 11.25am but came down at about noon.

There were 145 passengers on board.
