"We got the pirate ship made up here by a place called Spoilt Rotten in Stanmore Bay," Mr Spiers said.
"My wife liked it at the time. Unfortunately she had a brain tumour and one of her requests was that I put this pirate ship in for the children, so I went ahead."
Mr Spiers said the kids loved the pirate ship. But now he wanted to move into a smaller place, perhaps an apartment in the city.
The property, which has a capital valuation of $1,995,000, has been on the market for six months, but Mr Spiers said he was in no hurry to sell.
"I still have my boat in the marina here, so I'm pretty relaxed about the whole thing. It's a big house just for me - it's 650sq m.
"I have friends around, we play pool - it's got a 100-year-old pool table as well - and the swimming pool and entertainment area is very nice. It's an entertainer's house."
The pool table will be left for the new buyer, as will the pirate ship. The house also has two kitchens, as Mr Spiers said his wife loved to entertain.
Real estate agent Karen Franklin of Harcourts said the the pirate ship was a fun addition to the house, but could be removed if the buyer wasn't so keen on it.
"It's not a swimming pool for doing laps, it's a swimming pool that you just have fun in. Everyone just calls it the pirate ship house."
She said the house, though very large, was still homely because there were lots of areas you could "disappear" to.
It would be suited to someone who had a lot of guests, a big family, or grandkids that visited regularly, Ms Franklin said.
