Two Masterton Intermediate School Agri Kids NZ teams are fundraising to get to the national final in Auckland later this year, after placing at the regional final last month.
Agri Kids NZ is a competition to test the farming skills of students, and is associated with the Young Farmer of the Year competition.
The school entered two teams which each came second and third in the East Coast regional final held in Woodville in February. This is the fifth year in a row the school has made the national finals.
Teacher Patricia Rope said the children had worked hard brushing up on their first aid and safety skills, animal care and general knowledge.
"They did lots of training beforehand," she said.
