Police are seeking information on a pair of thieves who threatened a 21-year-old woman with a crowbar in a Wellington aggravated robbery this morning.
The pair, one of whom was armed with the crowbar, approached the woman as she prepared to open the Corner Bar & Cafe in Kilbirnie just before 9am.
They demanded money and were able to make off with a "substantial" amount of $2 coins, police say.
Detective Sergeant Fleur De Bes says the pair escaped up Rongotai Road and into Queens Drive in a waiting silver 2002 Honda Civic station wagon with the registration number FBQ52.
It was reported stolen yesterday from the Waterloo railway station in Lower Hutt, she says.
Anyone with information can phone police on 04 381 2000 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Witnesses described both offenders as Maori or Pacific Islanders, one of whom was bigger and taller than the other.
One was wearing a dark-coloured cap and dark clothing, with black gloves and was carrying a dark sports bag. The other was carrying the crowbar and wearing a woollen beanie, gloves and a dirty-looking light-coloured hooded sweatshirt.
Both had the lower part of their faces concealed with a dark-coloured piece of material.
