KEY POINTS:
Sales were up 25 per cent at the national Affordable Art show in Wellington at the weekend.
More than 1400 pieces were sold for an average price of $560 and the show's total sales were $802,000, compared with $646,000 last year.
Executive director Carla Russell said: "Affordability does not mean quality is compromised. We had more than 3500 artworks on sale by 833 artists from North Cape to Bluff."
The show was started in Wellington in 2004, based on similar shows in London, New York and Sydney.
Only 15 per cent of the sale price is taken as commission - artists this year grossed more than $680,000.
