KEY POINTS:
Teenagers are being warned about the dangers of inhaling solvents after the death of a 16-year-old girl in Whakatane.
The girl was found unconscious on Tuesday night. She was taken to Whakatane Hospital but was dead on arrival.
Senior Sergeant Bruce Jenkins said it appeared the girl died as a result of inhaling from an aerosol can.
He warned teenagers not to indulge in the "dangerous activity, especially given they don't know or understand the reaction these substances can have on the human body".
