Four Masterton riders will have their sights set on a repeat of last year's triumph in Taranaki when their club hosts an annual North Island equestrian championship this week.
Representing the Masterton Adult Riding Club at the North Island Team Event at Solway Showgrounds on Thursday and Friday will be, from left, Michelle Pike, with Louis, Erica Hughes, with Kate, Lorelei Olafson, with Ty, and Sonja Garrity, with Bruno.
The team will take on nine teams from across the country in four events.
They include a dressage event contested in fancy dress, a show-jumping event, a team cross-country event and a games event where horses will jump over obstacles modelled on Wairarapa landmarks.
Ms Olafson said hosting the contest had been a "massive undertaking" and she encourages the region's equestrian community to make the most of it. "It's not often we get something like this and it will probably be a few years before we have it again. It will be a lot of fun and interesting for spectators to watch."
