KEY POINTS:
New Plymouth woman Alana Cleland and her newly adopted Romanian son Iani will arrive in New Zealand next week.
Ms Cleland told the Taranaki Daily News from London that Iani was excited and counting the days until they get on the plane.
"I'm looking forward to putting Iani in school, getting a job and being normal," Ms Cleland said.
"I'm looking forward to seeing family and doing some forward planning, because of the last six years I have not been able to plan anything ahead."
The Department of Internal Affairs had earlier said that Iani's citizenship had been successful, paving the way for the paediatric nurse and her son to return to New Zealand.
Ms Cleland and Iani's homecoming will be almost two years to the day since she was forced to return Iani to an uncertain future in Romania.
Since then it has been a rollercoaster ride full of bureaucratic red tape for Ms Cleland to legally adopt Iani as her son.
They have booked flights to leave London early tomorrow morning New Zealand time and are stopping over in Singapore to catch up with friends, before heading home early next week.
