Former Shortland Street actor Paul Reid has been convicted and fined $1000 for drink-driving.
Reid, 31, an actor-turned-popstar-turned-businessman, was charged with driving at more than double the alcohol limit earlier this year. A black BMW convertible registered to Reid's company, with a smashed front end was in his Titirangi driveway when the Herald on Sunday visited after the incident.
Reid played Marshall Heywood in Shortland Street from 2000 to 2004, before gaining prominence as lead singer of Los Angeles-based band Rubicon. He now runs apartment real estate company Iconicity.
After being pulled over, Reid elected to have a blood test. He was charged with driving with a blood alcohol reading of 214mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood. In the North Shore District Court he was disqualified for eight months but granted a limited licence.
Reid did not return calls from the Herald on Sunday this week. Asked in February about the incident he messaged: "While flattered that you think my profile still newsworthy after nine years since myself being on TV, if you run this fabricated story Iconicity Limited will never advertise again in any NZ Herald or APN publication."
