KEY POINTS:
The Government's rail organisation OnTrack says it will do all it can to keep the number of level crossing accidents down over the coming years.
There were 15 recorded collisions last year - the lowest figure for 20 years.
OnTrack spokesman Kevin Ramshaw said numbers can fluctuate from year to year but have gone down for the past 11 months.
But he said the company will not become complacent.
Mr Ramshaw said high profile campaigns such as the one fronted by cricketer Chris Cairns also help to get the safety message across.
