Accused nurse murderer 'not mentally ill'

The man accused of murdering New Zealand-born Sydney nurse Michelle Beets has no mental health issues, a court has heard.

Former US Marine Walter Ciaran Marsh, 50, has been charged with the murder of Ms Beets, 57, who was stabbed on the doorstep of her suburban Chatswood home on April 27 last year.

Ms Beets was a nurse manager at Sydney's Royal North Shore Hospital where Marsh had worked for 12 months as a nurse.

At his last hearing, Marsh made no reply to the charges against him and the judge accepted his silence as a not guilty plea.

In the Supreme Court on Friday, Emad Younan representing Marsh indicated a medical report due to be completed next week would find Marsh had no medical issues.

"No substantial impairment issues or mental illness?" Judge Megan Latham inquired.

"No," Mr Younan replied.

The court had previously been told Marsh's mental health could be an issue at his trial, which has been scheduled for September.

Marsh did not appear in court on Friday.

The case was adjourned until July 7.
