A Masterton man is disputing a drink-driving charge.
At a case review hearing in Masterton District Court on Thursday, Maurice Hills said, through defence lawyer Virginia Pearson, he wasn't driving.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Jodie Lawrence said police had been at Hills' house on another matter and an officer made a note that Hills said he "had driven home" and suspected he had been drinking.
However, Hill says he told the officer he "had been driven home" by friends, not that he had driven home himself. "There is very little evidence that this man was driving a vehicle that night," said Ms Pearson.
She said the notebook entry, job sheets and other police documents from the first officer on the scene hadn't been disclosed to her. Hill told Judge Barbara Morris he never signed anything from police on the night he was charged with the excess breath-alcohol offence.
