Emergency services have evacuated the Wellington headquarters of the ACC in Molesworth Street, Thorndon, in a white powder scare.
The evacuation late this morning is understood to have been sparked by the discovery of white powder in the ACC's mailroom.
Police have cordoned off an area around the HQ.
Police also evacuated cafes next to the ACC building and closed nearby shops.
ACC media manager Laurie Edwards confirmed six or seven people who were in the mail room at the time of the alert had been taken away for decontamination.
The cordon at 1pm had been extended to about 200m surrounding the ACC building.
