The family who adopted Trooper - the puppy that was rescued after being found outside the Gate Pa shops, in Tauranga, with its ears chopped off - say he is settling in to his new home very well.
Trooper was adopted to a family living outside of Tauranga, to give the pup the best chance at a fresh start.
"He is quickly becoming best friends with our other pit bull, they have struck an instant rapport and she has been the perfect mentor to bring him into the next stage of his life," the new owner, who did not wish to be named, said.
Since arriving at his new home on Saturday, Trooper had shown he had left the past behind and the family had witnessed "no signs of mistrust" from the pup.
"We have introduced him to children, which both parties enjoy immensely. We have no regrets whatsoever about adopting Trooper. He is just a normal puppy who needs plenty of love, balanced with discipline."
Trooper's new owner encouraged others to adopt from, or donate to, the SPCA. "The job they do is second to none, they speak for those who can not speak for themselves. We dread to think what would of happened to our little Trooper if it wasn't for them."
Eight-week-old Trooper had been living at a foster home in Tauranga since he was delivered to the SPCA on November 27.
Tauranga SPCA inspector Jason Blair is currently attempting to gather further details about the attack on Trooper, and waiting for any more information to come from the public before taking the matter to court.
The reward for information stands at $1200.
