A sunny day with an icy sting

Jasckson Ellis finds that Mt Maunganui's waves still have an icy bite despite the balmy conditions yesterday.

Holiday-makers can expect much of the same today as the MetService is predicting fine weather for most of the country.

Forecaster Mads Naeraa said a few light afternoon showers were expected in Northland, the mountain ranges in the central North Island and the Nelson ranges.

Light frosts may also greet sheltered inland places in the morning. Most of the country can expect temperatures between the high teens to the low 20s.
