Revenge for too-expensive petrol? No, just a case of going backwards a bit too enthusiastically.
After the driver of a Mitsubishi Diamante finished putting air in his tyres at the Shell Repco in Mt Wellington, he reversed away from the air pump ... and didn't stop in time.
Shell Repco worker Tracey Shaw said: "He wasn't even getting petrol. He was just reversing away from the air pump and reversed too much. Way too much."
The pumps were quickly switched off to reduce the fire risk, and the driver was not injured.
"He looked fine, just a little shaken," said Ms Shaw.
But he had to wait at the pump for two hours while his car was pulled from the wreckage by two tow trucks and Fire Service staff.
A seriously backward move
