Both teams scored three tries and the three successful conversions by national touch rugby age group rep Kieran te Whare proved to be the deciding factor for Martinborough.
Also on Saturday, East Coast actually played second fiddle to the Rams in the first-half of their encounter at Memorial Park, but lifted their effort in the second spell to win by a flattering 32-16. Pioneer came from 8-0 down to beat Greytown 29-13 at the Jean street grounds in the day's other fixture.
Loosies Nathan Rolls and Lee Ewe spearheaded the Pioneer effort, along with hard-running backs Tommy Harmon and Tipene Haira. Standouts for Greytown were Kurt Simmonds and Gareth van Dalen up front and Tavita Isaac and Rhys Lett in the backs.
The other premier division match was a thriller under lights at Gladstone on Friday night, with Eketahuna scoring two tries to one but Gladstone landing a couple of important penalties to win 11-10.
