Martinborough Golf Club
It's good to be back after a great break down south. The Martinborough golf club has been busy with the club captain Kris at the helm while secretary-manager Sue took a well-earned break.
First to the 9-holers, and they are all getting into the swing of things with a pretty good variety of events. On April 6 they had a putting and shoot-out round. First was Barbara Cox on a count-back from Carol Parkinson with 14 putts and third Jill Colton 16.
The All Teed Up nearest pin on #8 was Pat Wood (another leftie) and nearest pin on #16, which is sponsored by Property Brokers was Jill Colton.
Another major sponsor for the 9-holers is PGG Wrightson, which sponsored the stableford round on the 13th, and the winner here was Jenny Tosswill on 23 points followed by Sandra Burgess with 20 and Maureen Thurlow with 19.
Property Brokers nearest pin on #16 went to Sandra Burgess.
The 18-holers played a par round and the winner was Bindy McLeod with a very good 5 up - well done! Second on 4 up was Vicky Harris, while Gail Freeman was 3 up to take out the third spot. Those with 1 up were Gretel Dick, Robyn Blackett and Heather Draper.
The All Teed Up nearest pin on #6 was Marilyn Mackenzie, while the Medici voucher for nearest pin on #8 went to Jenny Smith.
I've noticed on April 27 there is a women's 4BBB event over 18 holes; a gross and nett competition. Morning tea at 9am followed by a shotgun start at 9.30am.
And so to the men, and the Thursday Club was well supported once again. The winner on 45 points was Sandra Peterson, runner-up on 42 was Alistair Holmes, and Graeme McIsaac with 41 third, with Dave Donohue and Edwin Read sharing fourth place with 40. Ash Reed got nearest the pin but unfortunately never got his two. It was a Chicago Stableford round last Saturday and the winner on 40 points was Shayne Hammond followed by Bob Goodley, Phil Eberlein and Brent Keene on 37. Twos were scored by Bob Goodley and Ian Stewart.
David Stevenson and Ian Henderson won the Bisque Par comp on Sunday, both scoring +5, and Bob Tosswill managed a two.
Highlight of the week was the support shown for the St John Charity tournament held last Friday, which proved miserable weather-wise but was played in a wonderful spirit. I'm not sure of the amount raised but to all who played, participated in, and sponsored this event, a very big thank you.
This weekend sees a stableford round on Saturday, while on Sunday the club will be holding the annual Egg & Chicken Open Stableford tournament, which kicks off at 10.30am for registration followed by a shotgun start at 11.30am.
To you all - have a happy and safe Easter and Good Golfing.
