Octogenarian and former soldier Reginald Hugh Donovan says he will defend charges of trespass and shoplifting and his case has been set for a hearing early next year.
The near-deaf 85-year-old had to stand close to hear what Judge John Strettell was saying at a status hearing in the Christchurch District Court yesterday, where he denied the charges.
He was remanded on bail until January 26.
