About $8.1 million in research grants would look at issues for children and young people, Research Minister Pete Hodgson said today.
The Foundation for Research, Science and Technology was putting $8.1m into five independent research projects in the third round of funding as part of its "Building and Inclusive Society" portfolio.
One of the contracts would allow AUT University to continue its Pacific Island Families longitudinal study, which the foundation had funded since 2000.
Other contracts included Auckland University's work to understand the impacts of social policies on children and young people, and Massey University's study of the path children and young people take that puts them into contact with various support agencies, he said.
