A rebuilt wharf for Dargaville is looking likely following the announcement a $100,000 grant to help revitalise Kaipara Harbour waterways.
The grant is part of regional development funding worth $700,000 coming to Northland from the Ministry for Economic Development.
Along with the harbour grant, the Kaipara district will share in a further $200,000 for a soil and climate study.
The study is to cover the north part of the Kaipara, and the Hokianga area of the Far North district.
The soil and climate study would map the area involved to provide a tool enabling people to consider alternative land uses, such as trying different crop types.
Another $100,000 is going toward the development of a sustainable scallop fishery in the region. It is to be primarily used to develop a comprehensive management plan for the fishery.
