A 69-year-old woman is dead after a truck and car collided south of Alexandra in Central Otago.
Senior Constable Mike Colligan of Alexandra police said the woman's car collided with a truck on State Highway 8 in the Butchers Dam area, 7km southwest of Alexandra, about 2pm.
The woman, believed to be from Ettrick, 57km southeast of Alexandra, died at the scene.
Mr Colligan praised the actions of two conservation workers who pulled the woman from the car and performed CPR while they waited for an ambulance.
"They did an outstanding job in trying circumstances," Mr Colligan said.
Police were still investigating the cause of the accident but speed and alcohol were not believed to be factors.
The woman's name will not be released until next of kin have been notified.
