A man has been killed after being struck by a train in Lower Hutt this afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the Wingate Rail Station in Avalon at 1.23pm.
A Wellington Free Ambulance spokeswoman said paramedics found a 68-year-old with critical injuries.
The man died at the scene, she said.
Train services from Wellington to Petone were continuing to operate but trains from Petone onwards were being replaced with buses, a KiwiRail spokeswoman said.
