Discovering $6000 in her bank account, which wasn't hers, Breena Lee Strang is alleged to have withdrawn it knowing she wasn't entitled to it.
When the 23-year-old appeared before Judge Barbara Morris last week to plead to a charge of theft, her lawyer, Peter Stevens, said a London man Strang was speaking to through Skype on the internet had agreed to give her $600 to buy food and other things for her children.
"She thought he was coming to visit her."
The money had been transferred by Western Union but during the wire transfer through Vanuatu, $6000 instead of $600 was put into her account, Mr Stevens said.
"She thought the money was legitimate ... she knew money was coming into her account. She thought it was his money ... she spent it."
