KEY POINTS:
The Rotorua region was shaken by a 5.6 magnitude quake just after midday today although there were no immediate reports of injury or damage.
GNS Science said the quake, which struck at 12.13pm was located 20km north of Rotorua at a depth of 200km.
It was likely to have been felt along the East Coast of the North Island.
