Christchurch's 5.3 magnitude aftershock on April 16 is to classified by the Earthquake Commission (EQC) as a "new event" for insurance purposes, the EQC has announced.
People who have suffered new damage as a result the April 16 event will need to lodge a new claim with the EQC and have will three months in which to lodge their claim.
The deadline for claims from this event is July 18.
