Forget wine cellars - beer, spirits and ready-to-drink beverages are the alcoholic drinks to stash away this weekend.
Prices from major liquor companies will go up more than 5 per cent on Tuesday.
DB Breweries, producer of Tui, Double Brown and Heineken, will raise prices by an average of 5.5 per cent for pack beer and 5.3 per cent for tap beer.
Lion Nathan, which produces Speights, Lion Red and Steinlager beer, will raise prices by an average of 5.5 per cent. Spirits and ready-to-drink beverages will also rise, by around 5.3 per cent.
Wine drinkers face smaller rises - wine sold by Lion Nathan will rise less than 4 per cent. DB Breweries does not sell wine.
Liquor companies are blaming commodity prices for the price hikes, saying malt prices have soared 50 per cent in the past year.
