Another aftershock has hit Canterbury this evening.
The quake measured 4.9 on the Richter scale, at a depth of 9km.
According to GeoNet, it struck at 7.21pm, 20 km south-west of Christchurch.
It is just one of thousands which have struck the region since September 4`s magnitude 7.1 quake.
Early this morning, Cantabrians were also shaken by a shallow 4.7 earthquake.
That quake struck at 1.34am at a depth of 7km and was centred 20km west of Christchurch.
GNS Science said the quake was widely felt and possibly caused damage.
The aftershock followed a 3.8 magnitude quake which struck at 12.12am.
A police spokesman said they were yet to receive any reports of damage.
The aftershock was however quite a large one and brought back memories of the September 4 quake, he said.
