Tarankai has been rocked by a strong earthquake this evening, with a 4.6-magnitude quake hitting at 6.35pm.
The quake was centred 20 km north-west of Opunake, at a depth of 11km, according to GeoNet.
The same area was hit by two strong shakes in the early hours of New Year's Day.
