Residents have reported being mildly shaken by an earthquake near Wairoa in the Hawkes Bay tonight.
The magnitude 4.4 quake, centered 20km northwest of the town, hit just before 7pm, GeoNet reported.
It had a depth of 5km.
Five residents in the area reported feeling slight or weak shaking, said the website.
